As a proof of what this new breed of cameras is capable of I think it worked very well and to this day the video has been viewed more than 350,000 times on Vimeo.

At the end of the week our images were submitted to the contest in four categories and I was awarded the main award for Best Action Image , as well as the award for Most Creative Image.

Best Action Image

As the sun set behind the mountains on this evening a wonderful silhouette showed itself behind the jump.  I used a collection of strobes fired remotely from various directions to light the skier and the jump, and lined the image up to create a symmetry between the mountains and the lights on the ground.

Most Creative Image

One of the professional skiers, Jen Hudak, was injured and could not take part in any skiing that week.  I decided to use a macro lens and shoot the reflection of the skier hitting the jump right in her eyes.  Since it was a women’s freeskiing contest I really liked the idea of seeing it though another girls eye and her mascara makes it distinctively female.

This is a complete list of all the gear that I use and recommend to my readers. I have taken a great deal of time to document everything with my own notes and examples of how things get used. This is the gear that was used to create the images and content you will find on my sites and in my eBooks. 	Lenses

I’ve also included some information on cameras that I have previously owned since these can be found on the second hand market and all still take fantastic photos! I tend to switch cameras around as new ones come out but understand that this is not a necessity from an imaging standpoint, more a curiosity and desire to understand the latest equipment for my readers.

	Camera Bags & Cases
	A bad bag can ruin a good day. When you are carrying around expensive and often heavy equipment it is imperative that you think carefully about your camera bag. The search for the ‘best camera bag’ can seem like an eternal quest for some photographers but I’m here to narrow it down for you. I’ve traveled all over the world with my gear and these are the bags that remain in my gear closet.

	Strobes & Lighting
	Strobes and lighting equipment are a big part of my action sports work. This section shows you all the gear that I’m using to achieve Hypersynced action images along with sample photos from some of my shoots. Tripods & Support

I have a range of support solutions for a variety of shooting situations. 	Computers & Office
	I spend as lot of time in my office processing my images, creating educational material and writing content for various websites and magazines. Getting things done quickly is a high priority so I can get back outside and shoot again! This section reveals my office setup as well as my travel setup and all the drives that I use to implement my backup routine at home and on the road.

	Audio Equipment For Video
	As soon as I started tinkering in video I realised the need for great sound. I use a range of microphones and pro sound equipment for my own videos as well as helping out other production companies with sound solutions on their projects. I’ve developed a lightweight sound kit that fits the needs of remote location shooting and travels very easily.

	Photography Accessories & Travel Trinkets
	This is the ‘all the other stuff’ section. My gear closet has 12 labelled drawers full of trinkets, doo-dads & thingemy-jigs. All have a purpose on the right day. Here I’ll tell you which memory cards I’m using, what I use to clean my gear and what little accessories I consider to be ‘must-haves’ for the seasoned world traveler.

	Screen Captured Tutorials
	We wanted the screen captured tutorials to really stand out from the crowd on YouTube so we set up a small studio with this purpose in mind. Great sound is important, as is the ability to feed in some video from a camera or two and have a tutorial uploaded to our channel or a clients channel as quickly as possible once filming has finished. Find out what we are using and why.

	Video Gear
	Occasionally my clients call for video and sometimes I’m creating for my own personal projects and of course for this website! Whilst today’s DSLRs are very capable video cameras, there’s a few bits and pieces you need to get them up to speed. If you are interested in this section, make sure you also take a look at the audio section as well.

Outdoor & Sporting Gear

Many of you know me for my outdoor and adventure sports photography. I live in Whistler,BC, home of the worlds #1 ski resort and the best mountain biking terrain on the planet. People often inquire what sort of gear I’m using outdoors, whether it be skiing, biking, camping or trekking. This section details the contents of my gear cupboard to date, and the outdoor clothing that keeps me warm, dry and comfortable while I’m shooting.

On Display In Whistler

If you happen to be in Whistler, or you live here, I have a selection of images on display in Alta Bistro.  These vary from smaller canvas or framed giclee images to huge 48″ prints.

• If the image is from a magazine simply let me know which issue and what page the photo is on.
• If you find an image in a gallery on my site, or in the archive please let me know the file name of the image as in the diagram below.

Print Options

• Giclee archival prints on the highest quality matte photographic paper and sprayed with a protective archival solution for longevity.  The print can be either delivered rolled in a tube or custom framing can also be arranged.

• Giclee canvas prints are also available and are extremely popular.  Canvas prints require stretching onto a wooden frame in order to be hung on the wall.  Unstretched prints can be mailed in a tube and then you can have your local framer stretch it to a simple wooden frame usually just for a few dollars.  This saves on slightly higher shipping costs of canvas prints that have already been stretched.  Overall cost of a canvas print is usually less than a framed archival print, especially for very large prints like the 48″one shown earlier on.

• A further option for canvas prints is to get them mounted into a sunken wooden frame which is my personal favorite.
